The Network Security Operations Center (NSOC) mid-level cyber consultant provides technical knowledge and analysis of highly specialized applications and operational environments, high-level functional systems analysis, design, integration, documentation and implementation advice on problems that need knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation. Possesses in-depth knowledge of network security, penetration testing, and phishing attacks.


  • Participates as needed in all phases of development with emphasis on the planning, analysis, testing, integration, documentation, and presentation phases.
  • Applies principles, methods and knowledge of application architecture, advanced mathematical principles and methods to technical problems to arrive at desired solutions.
  • Is responsible for identifying data related to a Computer Incident. Reviews artifacts from an incident, determines root cause and supporting artifacts.  Uses chain of evidence handling to maintain data documenting the incident. 
  • Provides knowledge in computer and network forensics. Conducts vulnerability assessments /penetration tests of information systems.  Develops, researches and maintains proficiency in tools, techniques, countermeasures, and trend in computer and network vulnerabilities, data hiding, and encryption.  Identifies, deters, monitors, and investigates computer and network intrusions.  Provides computer forensic support to high technology investigations in the form of evidence seizure, computer forensic analysis, and data recovery.
  • Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments. Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks.  Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems.  Contributes to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable.


  • Certifications: CEH/GIAC, Security+
  • Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree in computer science/systems, information systems/technology, engineering/engineering technology, software engineering/programming, management, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics or business/finance. BS and 5+ (or H.S. and 7+) years of IT systems experience in technology solution delivery.
  • Skills: Information systems development, functional and data requirements analysis, systems analysis and design, programming, program design and documentation preparation.
  • Required experience: demonstrated experience in the implementation of information engineering projects; systems analysis, design and programming, systems planning, business information planning, and business analysis. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently or under only general direction.
